Bio (written be yours truly!)
Posh Bio (written by someone that writes better than me)
Born in Glasgow to a Scottish mother and a Scottish/Indian father, Rosie was encouraged in music from an early age. Based in London since 2010, her relentless gig schedule has taken her around the country, each show characterised by her tireless energy and infectious enthusiasm.
Drawing inspiration from the vocal talents of Gloria Gaynor and Stevie Nicks, and from the songwriting skills of Imogen Heap, Amanda Palmer and Tori Amos, Rosie's music is at once intelligent and accessible. Rich with instantly memorable choruses and rhythmic piano grooves which belie a subtle compositional complexity seldom found in pop music, it is easy to understand why her writing has such wide ranging appeal.
Autumn 2011 saw Rosie take to the road with fellow singer songwriter Erin Todd on the Killer Heels UK tour, bringing her music to new audiences in major cities around England, Scotland and Wales. In 2012 Rosie was part of The Timorous Beasties Scottish tour, playing alongside the talents of Mike Nisbet and Anna MacDonald.
2013 brings you Rosie's debut album, to be released sometime mid autumn.
Some nice reviews"Some performers are like circus ringmasters when they are on stage. Rosie Bans was one such performer and she soon tamed the animals in the audience. Benefitting from a musical education and thus actually knowing what syncopation is, she adopted a direct approach to audience manipulation through the kind of slick songs and slap your face banter that easily marked her out as a proper entertainer and that’s a rare thing to see in Glasgow these days.
Job done, as they say." - Bluesbunny, independant reviews
"Rosie Bans is my newest little obsession. A little soul, kind of jazzy, almost funky. Then there is that sweet, clear voice above all. A slight departure from my usual folk, alt-country, shoegazy, lo-fi garage, electronic, sophisti-pop, and twee favorites". - I Sing in the Kitchen Blog
"With the likes of Adele storming the music scene this year, 2011 has shown that now is the time for strong voiced female singer/songwriters. Rosie Bans is no different with her latest single ‘Pictures’ the self-titled track from her new EP. Her voice has a soulful element with a contemporary musical style making her fresh and enjoyable to listen to. ‘Pictures’ is about ridding yourself of someone and moving on with your life - a theme we’ve all heard in music countless times, but with Bans her unique approach somehow makes it seem fresh and somewhat feministic." - Unsigned Britain
